Please check to make sure that all necessary components are present in your new exhaust.
For health and safety reasons we always recommend taking your vehicle to a qualified fitter. However if you choose to fit the exhaust system yourself please follow these instructions carefully. (We cannot be held responsible for any problems caused by incorrect installation)
Make sure you park your car on level ground and allow time for the vehicle to cool down.
If you are going to work near electrical connections, make sure the battery is disconnected.
Wear appropriate protective equipment and eyewear.
Raise your vehicle using a ramp and jack, do not just use a jack, and make sure to lock the emergency brakes and block the front wheels when using a ramp.
Lay the new exhaust on the ground to make sure the units fit together before assembly. Make sure all worn rubber fittings are replaced with new ones.
Depending on your vehicle's hanger type, install the new hangers on the exhaust parts first.
Apply a small amount of High Temperature Silicone Sealant to the inside of each threaded joint or flange; this will help prevent leaks during operation.(Do not use exhaust sealant on any part prior to the catalytic converter)
Starting with the exhaust at the front of the vehicle, ensure that the system is angled approximately 15 mm towards the front of the vehicle to allow the hangers to move into the correct position if the exhaust heats up and expands.
Check the clearance around the exhaust, allowing for expansion of up to 25mm when hot.
Place new gaskets between components.
Make sure the system is in the correct position and check the alignment of the exhaust pipes.
Tighten all clamps and bolts on the new system, being careful not to overtighten.
Clean any grease, oil or stains from your new exhaust system and be sure to replace any covers, brackets or heat shields you removed to install it.
Check the system for leaks and take the vehicle for a test drive. After the test drive, recheck the system, including all joints and gaps, and make any necessary adjustments when the vehicle has cooled down again.
Removing the Old Exhaust System
Spray all bolts, joints and mounting points on the old exhaust system and allow it to penetrate for about an hour.
Remove the old exhaust system starting from the rear of the vehicle and working your way forward.
Some stock exhaust systems come installed in one piece and will need to be cut at the correct port to be removed to fit your new system.
Remove the exhaust from the hangers and set all your parts aside. Some systems can be heavy, so make sure you have help or can remove the system with adequate support.
Sometimes rubber hangers can be difficult to remove; removing the bracket from the vehicle body may be an alternative solution.
