  • The diesel particulate filter is one of the elements of the exhaust system responsible for exhaust gas cleaning, Ash and soot are formed during the reactions. The filter contains special noble metal particles including: palladium, platinum and rhodium to aid in the purification process. The DPF is designed to raise the temperature formed during the operation of the engine and to burn the formed ring.

    Particulate filters consist of an inlet pipe, an outlet pipe and a discharge section with a multi-walled structure made of metal and ceramic materials.

    Often the filters use the name DPF, GPF or FAP interchangeably, which indicates the type of vehicle to which the device is assigned. DPF and FAP filters are used in diesel vehicles, GPF is used in gasoline vehicles. Depending on the manufacturer, different types of filters are installed on cars - FAP on French cars and on other DPFs.

    The particle filter is only a temporary storage place for soot. The diesel particulate filter can only work properly if the regeneration periods take place at the required/required frequency. If the regeneration frequency is disturbed, the particulate filter fills up.

    Minimum checklist:

    • Check and/or replace oil filter
    • Check and/or replace air filter
    • Check and/or replace spark plug
    • Check engine management
    • Check additive level, type and quality
    • Check oil consumption
    • Check coolant consumption
    • Check for leaks at the cylinder head gasket
    • Check regeneration frequency and efficiency
    • Check the quality and capacity of the (pre)catalyst
    • Check all sensors (lambda sensors)
    • Check EGR valves and system

    Additionally, you should test the following:

    • injectors
    • Turbo
    • starter motor and battery
    • Emissions test

    Do not use a gasket on the front of the diesel particulate filter. Special low ash generation engine oil is recommended. It is highly recommended to change the oil when replacing the catalytic converter.

    The particle filter can only do its job properly when all the conditions of the minimum checklist are met.
